* The above pictures taken separately from the video using a digital camera. | The Edge Trail (Fruita, Colorado) was designated as an IMBA epic trail (http://www.imba.com/epics/fruita_co.html). The video includes a solo rope-down descent of the 50 ft rappel-down a waterfall section (~30 ft in elevation? I recommend riding with a group, it's easier with a group.)
Located in the Book Cliffs area in Fruita, Colorado that rises upto above 7,000 ft from 4,500 ft in the Grand Valley basin, the Edge Loop is about 30 miles long. It begins from the Cow Pond parking lot (~5200 ft) on 18 Road with a climb on the single track of Prime Cut trail and then to nice roller coaster single track of Frontside trail. After a gruelling climb up Coal Gulch Road to a Pumping Station, there is an overlook further down with a breathtaking, awe-inspiring, panoramic viewpoint. You can look down on the beautiful and seemingly endless desert and badlands with bright yellow and orange rocks that spreads down to the Grand Valley and the town of Fruita. Further to the south, Colorado National Monument marks the other end of the horizon. Awesome singletrack of the Edge Loop goes down to a creek bed then to a 50 ft rappel-down a waterfall section. Out of the canyon climbing on a single track to a wide-open desert terrain, the up-and-down ride back to the parking lot completes the loop.
My ride (30 miles) of The Edge Trail was recorded for about 110 minutes (some time-consuming climbing sections are not recorded). 3 Video segments: 40 min + 62 min + 8 min = Total 110 min
