This ride starts from Equestrian (lower) Parking at Cheeseboro Rd off 101 Ventura Freeway. There were a group of dog-bike (similar to dog sled) people. Derek and Jason ride along Cheeseboro Rd to main park entrance (National Park area) and keep going on Cheeseboro Canyon trail. Trees that look like the ones in haunted house movies greet us on the trail that is a mix of fire road and single track. There are a few technical rocky sections where we test our climbing skills. Also, we pass Surphur Springs with rotten egg smell (we explore on the way back). There are sands, rocks, creek crossing, mud, even surphur on this trail! At the junction with Sheep Corral trail (Shephards' Flat), we turn west and climb to a view point. Then we go down and climb on Palo Comado Canyon trail to China Flat with the remnants of a ranch and a pond on semi-arid terrain. We climb on Simi Peak trail to the peak for a nice view, then head back on a single track to Albertson trail. We go east on the fire road downhill to the junction with a single track that connects east to Cheeseboro Ridge trail. Climbing on the fire road surrounded by strangely shaped rock formations with semi-arid terrain reminds us of some other place like Arizona desert. We ride downhill to a panoramic view of the mountain range, then go west on a Sheep Corral trail to return to Shephards' Flat. From there, we follow Cheeseboro Canyon trail back to the parking area, where we meet a group of white ponies.
The Cheeseboro Canyon ride of about 20 miles was recorded for about 150 minutes (some time consuming climbing sections were not recorded). Because it was such a sunny day some sections have sun light glaring to the camera lens depending on the angle, but it is not a camera malfunction or permanent.
